ASVAB Scores Explained
Your ASVAB generates two types of scores: an AFQT percentile that determines enlistment eligibility, and line scores that determine career qualifications.
AFQT Score
The Armed Forces Qualification Test (AFQT) score is a percentile (1–99) derived from four sections: Arithmetic Reasoning (AR), Word Knowledge (WK), Paragraph Comprehension (PC), and Mathematics Knowledge (MK). This single number determines whether you qualify to enlist in any branch.

Branch Minimums
Each branch sets its own minimum AFQT score for enlistment.
Line Scores
Line scores are composites calculated from combinations of your 9 section scores. Each military career requires minimum line scores in specific composites. For example, General Technical (GT) combines AR + WK + PC, while Electronics (EL) combines AR + MK + EI + GS.
Higher line scores open more career options. Taking the full ASVAB (all 9 sections, not just the AFQT four) gives you the most career choices.
